Seraphina Martin

 

Seraphina Martin studied printmaking at the National Art School in Paris. She has taught at the Sydney University Art Workshop for 20 years.

 

Seraphina was the recipient of the Moya Dyring Studio at the Cite des Arts in Paris in 1988 where she studied Viscosity colour printing method at the Atelier 17 under notorious master printer William Hayter. Since 1994 she was introduced to non toxic printmaking called Solar Plate Etching by American artist Dan Welden.

 

She has been developing this technique in her own art practice. In 2005 she was artist in residence at the Canberra School of Art, Canberra. She has taught printmaking at Meadowbank Tafe, Hornsby Tafe, and Penrith Tafe for up to 20 years. She regularly teaches Solar Plate workshops at the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, Gymea Megalo Print Studio, Canberra and at the NSW Art Gallery, Sydney.

 

In 2011 Seraphina was invited as Artist in residence at the Gov School of Art in Calcutta, and the Kola Bhavan University, Shanteniketan, West Bengal, India, to teach Solar Plate Etching.

 

Seraphina has had many solo and group exhibitions and her work is represented in public and private collections in Australia and Overseas.
